A HERO MOTORCYCLE
This is not the first time such attacks have taken place. Take our memory back to Naxalites attacks which took place years ago.
In the biggest militant attack on the Army recently at least 18 Soldiers were killed and 11 injured when they were ambushed in the Moltuk Valley of Chandel district in Manipur. Troops from Army were heading from their base in Moltuk towards Pallel when their convoy was ambushed. The Troops were returning to their HQ in Nagaland’s Dimapur and were travelling in the convoy of four trucks that were carrying 46 soldiers in all. The attack, which started with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast, took place when the convoy reached a hilly area between Paraolol and Larong about 125 km from the Imphal and Myanmar Border. The attackers then fired down from a hillside nearby using rocket-propelled grenades and heavy automatic weapons. Two trucks caught fire and were completely gutted, burning alive the soldiers who were trapped inside. As the surviving soldiers retaliated, there was a heavy exchange of gunfire which lasted an hour. One militant was killed in the retaliatory fire, sources say. While no underground group in Manipur has claimed responsibility for the attack, Intelligence sources said it was likely to have been a Joint Operation by Meitei valley groups, including UNLF, KCP and KYKL, along with a breakaway faction of the NSCN (K).
What prevails in the State of Jammu & Kashmir today is because of a Failure on the part of us all as also Governments ever since 1947, because of Total misinformation, disinformation, disjointed thought and disillusion in believing that things were improving and all the Governments were sanguine and full of hope that the prospects of peace in Kashmir was around the Corner. While it is true that a number of people in Kashmir were today fed up with the conditions that exist around them (economically, militant wise and security forces wise) the situation is not going the right way. Today, People much against their wishes have left the Militants no option but to bury their differences in Kashmir to get together and press not for Autonomy but they have taken in their hands the right to decide for themselves whether they want to be with India, join PAK or fight for an Independent State (AZADI) which is the catch word.
The Bodos form only 26% of the population but they want to carve out for themselves a separate Bodo state. Others who live there are protesting the dominance of a minority – and thereby facing bullets for it.
It is learnt that heavily armed militants shot dead three members of a family in Assam’s Baksa District. Militants also shot dead eight and left many more bodies dead in neighbouring Kokrajhar district. 12 bodies were found in Baksa, and the militants also set ablaze a hundred houses as also a bridge. All the dead – 32 so far – are Muslims and the militants are Bodos. Hundreds have fled their homes. The suspected perpetrators, the National Democratic Front for Bodoland, have however denied their involvement.
Appalling as this violence is, not surprising for those who have followed the conflict in this area. Outside Assam people think of it as a Hindu-Muslim conflict or one about illegal immigration from Bangladesh. It is neither.
Our PM Narendra Modi Ji today directed the Forces to be prepared for a Future where Security challenges will be less predictable – he said – The Threats may be known but beware, the Enemy may be invisible and one should not visualize full scale Wars as was previously perceived. He really changed the philosophy of our thinking. He is aware of the Cross –Border violations by Pakistan and the Chinese incursion in Ladakh. He further dwelt that Peace & Security was an essential part to enable India achieve its goals of Economic developments. This would mean that he was focused on creating a favorable external environment for India’s Security requirements. In Substance he Demanded that new thinking on Economic, Diplomatic and Security Policies must be imbibed in us. He also stressed the Domination of Cyber space which is going to be important . It will help us to evolve to change swiftly with Technological changes which are difficult to keep pace with, unless we have a domination of Cyber Space. He summed up by Quote: – When we speak of Digital India I would also like to see Digital Armed Forces. Unquote
On August 15, 1997 – India celebrated fifty years of its Independence but one State – Kashmir – observed it as a Black Day. Venturing into Kashmir on this day was impossible. All the roads leading into Srinagar bore a deserted look. There was a strong Military presence and continuous patrolling. From Jammu there were very few vehicles venturing into Srinagar. It was like a road to hell. It was India’s Independence day and nobody expected any celebrations in Srinagar. The Hurriyat Conference, the umbrella organization of Militants and those fighting for Kashmir’s Independence, had called for a bandh. Gujral the then PM, tried to visit Kashmir and was willing to hold unconditional talks with the Militants. His statement had created a furor in Parliament. Gujral was compelled to go back on his statement. He corrected it to say “I am willing to hold talks with those Militants who are willing to give up violence.” A Wishy, Washi Statement !! Kashmir is not a simple problem even today. PM’s from the time of Jawaharlal Nehru have erred when it came to Kashmir. India should have integrated Kashmir totally, even if it was to be called an Imperialist act by the International Community. Now this is exactly what India has been attempting to achieve but in a democratic way, through various elections, legislations, over the past 65 years. When things go terribly wrong the Indian Army, whose job is to protect the borders, is called in to maintain internal peace. This results in accusations of human right violations……. On the other side what a change with better days ahead, compare it with the situation today. Narendra Modi on his first day as Prime Minister spoke strongly to Nawaz Sharif to clamp down on terror and get back on a fast track on trade, but he in a great friendly gesture also invited him for his Swearing In Ceremony. On the other hand Omar Abdullah’s threats to join Pakistan are totally malicious and unwarranted.
Prime Minister Modi leaves for America later this month after Obama formally invites him. Obama certainly will look forward to Modi’s visit for further growing, Economic tie’s with India. America has already stated that the Indo – US relationship needs to be re-integrated.
Certainly today Gujrat is ahead of other States of the Indian Union in attracting Foreign Investment which is normal for a Prime Minister of a Country, who hails from that State. All States of the Country must also follow this model and grow for the benefit of the People.
Certainly we must also bring up the serious US spying incidents which puts a shadow on the visit but I am sure that recrimination, will be put aside and the talks would be fruitful with a concrete outcome through the Strategic Partnership with India and USA.
I learn that the US Team has already been visiting India for an opportunity to invest in Karnataka.
India believes that sustainable development of Afghanistan requires long term Investment which can help in exploiting its Natural Resources and Wealth. India hopes to be, in the Forefront of the promotion of Investment in Afghanistan and it is believed that a consortium of Public and Private Indian companies have already been selected to make one of the biggest investments in the Country’s Mining Sector, in the HAJIGAK iron ore Area.
Bilaterally, India has played a significant role in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Afghanistan. India’s extensive developmental assistance programme, which now stands at around US $2 billion, is a strong signal of its abiding commitment to Peace, Stability and Prosperity in Afghanistan during this critical period of Security and Governance transition. This makes India one of the leading donor nations for Afghanistan, and by far the largest from among the Regional Countries. Afghanistan today is going through a very difficult period due to the Talibisation of Afghanistan. India is helping the Country to Survive.
What happened is the attack by the Taliban on Karachi Airport. Was it a revenge for the torture that Taliban Forces have been getting in jails and military action in Waziristan by Pakistan.Shahidullah Shahid a Taliban spokesman announced that now the Pakistan Government should get ready for more. The International Federation of the Islamic Polarization against Afghanistan and Pakistan is already on.
A blow to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s efforts to end an Insurgency that has killed 50,000 People since 2001 and stifled Economic growth which cannot be controlled. Pakistan faces a growing Threat from Taliban Fighters, near the border as the U. S. also has started withdrawing forces from neighboring Afghanistan.
The Global Security characterized Operation Brasstacks “bigger than any NATO exercise – and the biggest since World War II”. Even as today, the Pakistan military analysts and strategists regarded this as a “blitzkrieg-like” integrated deep offensive strategy to infiltrate in dense areas of Pakistan. (Taken from Wikipedia Operation Brasstacks General Hoon)
It was peacetime and January 1987 when suddenly the Indian Army began moving from the East to West, from South to West from North to the West. They moved in trains, civilian aircraft and convoys. The World never saw such a large scale military movement of this nature. It could only be a preparation for war? The Media and the PM were unaware for yet another blunder, and the then COAS wanted to divert Public attention from Bofors to this war hysteria to become a Hero and was aspiring to be a FIELD MARSHAL. If one can recollect the Country was aware that the COAS General Sundarji was not on good terms with the PM. What is still not known is the real Politick that continued during the period and how involved was the Indian Army in all this.
In My book “Unmasking Secrets of Turbulence” Many Facets of Giani Zail Singh and General SundarJi have been discussed regarding their plan to together also dismiss Rajiv Gandhi in May-June 1987 which they could not succeed in. When a question was asked why Giani Zail Singh chose not to finally dismiss Rajiv Gandhi, but he replied, The FIRST REASON was that he had asked Rajiv to apologize to him which he did and the SECOND REASON WAS THAT IF HE HAD DISMISSED RAJIV AND APPOINTED A SUCCESSOR, THE SUCCESSOR MAY HAVE BEEN A WEAK PERSON WHICH COULD HAVE LED TO A TRANSFER OF POWER FROM A DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED GOVERNMENT TO THE ARMED FORCES. What did he mean???
The plan was hatched by late Sh. Vidya Charan Shukla and Sundarji. Vidya Charan Shukla then the Minister of Information and Broadcasting who came and met me in my office in Chandigarh when I was the Commander-in-Chief of the Western Army. He told me that if Rajiv Gandhi was to be removed what Role would the Indian Army Play? I told him that it is shocking that you had the guts to come to me. Never come again. I was quite clear that this cannot be allowed to happen. I immediately flew to Delhi shared this information with Rajiv Gandhi as to what was going on in the presence of Late Sh. Gopi Arora and simultaneously directed my Chief of Staff Lt General Garewal that NO troops as ordered by Army Head Quaters will move or enter Delhi. A signal had been received by my Head Quaters from Army Head Quaters to move three Para Commando Battalions to Delhi under Delhi Area Commander.
In Giani Zail Singhs memoirs while refusing, to go into details, Giani Zail Singh has chosen to remain mum on the identity of the Senior Congressman who played an active role in a bid to topple Rajiv Gandhi’s Government. He states “Look, some of those who were supposedly involved (in the scheme) are still my friends. Yes, they are also a part of the present Government. And why shouldn’t they be?” This shows a plot in early 1987 hatched by the late President of India, the Minister Information and Broadcasting and The COAS Sundarji to dismiss the Prime Minister. In his memoirs the President Giani Zail Singh has clearly stated that he has not disclosed the names of the People involved but in his memoirs he has put this secret information with someone to be disclosed after his death.
Responses To Future Economic, Military, Diplomatic And Political Strategy
It is abundantly clear as also an established fact, that Nations which have in the past merited recognition, as great leading Powers in the world, have been those who possess a Credible Defense Capability which is built on a strong Economy. This is even more true because all the world Nations today perceive you through their eyes, keeping in view the kind of DETERRENT POWER and ECONOMIC STRENGTH one possesses.
What is National Security? Are we secure? Over six decades since Independence India is still struggling to survive, let alone become a Super Power? On the contrary Countries who were Super Powers are known to have lost their status as Super Powers due to Internal contradictions of overheating their Economy to take on the burden of Military expenditure. Today China remains ambivalent and Pakistan hostile. The Internal Security situation is worsening because of the Threats faced from the Indian Mujahideen. How do we secure ourselves? It is imperative that we concentrate to have a stable and Good Political Governance which is exceedingly necessary for any Nation aspiring to become a Super Power. India must be prepared to be ready with an Aggressive response to any Threats to our Internal or External Security. Politicians need to get together and work as one and they must learn to stop Politicizing issues which are of National Importance specially our Farmers in the Villages.
It is my proud privilege to have been accepted as a Member of the BHARITYA JANTA PARTY after 40 years of unblemished Service in the Indian Army. It was always my ambition to continue to serve Hindustan till I pass away. Having fought all the Wars that took place between 1949 – 1987, I am even today ready to lay down my life anytime anywhere. I now also desire that whatever experience I have had during my long tenure I will continue to follow and live up to the tasks assigned to me by my Party.
Lt. General P.N. HOON (Rtd) PVSM, AVSM, SM joins BJP 2nd Dec, 2013 as Advisor Defense and Security.
While Good Governance should have been Parliaments Prime concern for the People of India, unfortunately this has not been so. The Government has miserably failed and they must now be ready to answer the People of India as to why they lacked Alacrity and Foresight? What contribution have they generated in the last 9 Years to further ensure and help in Developing our Economy in order to secure the NATION and the PEOPLE with the capability both Defense wise as also Economically? “CORRUPTION IS AT ITS HIGHEST LEVEL RIGHT FROM THE TOP TO THE LOWEST OF THE LOW”. We have failed to elevate the Cultural and Moral Values which were so dear to our Hearts. WAKE UP INDIA THE SITUATION REQUIRES TOUGH HANDLING AND EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES.
Politicians by and large today praise the procedures being followed by the Present Government in improving the Economy in the Villages, but certainly there are several analogies in implementation of a large number of Projects/Schemes which glaringly require a re-look as unfortunately what is required does not reach the Villagers who are the backbone of the Country. While good Governance must be Parliaments Prime Concern for the betterment of the People in the rural areas, it is also for both the Government and the Parliament to ensure that the Contribution that they generate must further improve by the implementations of various Schemes which are laid down for execution in a Time Bound Frame, in order to help in further developing their Economy and a progressive future by removing CORRUPTION AT THE TOP LEVEL.
What you are about to read is the authentic story of the Botched up Operation which has been collated by me personally after interviewing Officers and Men who took part. A first hand account of what actually happened, and my own assessment by on the spot visits to the Golden Temple. I FEEL THAT INDIRA GANDHI WAS ASSASSINATED BECAUSE OF HER FAILURE TO APPRICIATE THE SITUATION ON HER PART. IT WAS SURELY A POLITICAL BLUNDER. APPARENTLY SOME ONE ELSE WAS GUIDING HER. THE ENTIRE OPERTAION WAS ILLPLANNED, BUT WHY DID SUNDARJI AGREE TO GO AHEAD? TODAY BRAR TAKES THE CREDIT BUT ALSO HAS TO BITE THE DUST. The Operation was ill planned, ill conceived and very poorly implemented. Today it has been confirmed that Indira Gandhi asked for outside assistance (UK) Why was this necessary? Were our Armed and Civil Forces unprepared to take on the task or was there a scheme to finish one of the martial Communities of India ? As it is, UK was no friend of Ours then or even today. What was the necessity of getting advice from outside. Why was a member of the British Special Forces allowed to visit India in Feb1984 and who suggested helicopter borne attacks? However Sundarji did better as he mercilessly used Battle Tanks which fired HIGH EXPLOSIVE SQUASH HEAD AMMUNITION.
Now debated for over decades, the concept of having a National Security Council (NSC) some what on the lines of the United States was first mooted by Arun Singh, Minister of State for Defence in the Rajiv Gandhi Government. The V.P Singh Government which followed, set up the nucleus in 1990, but never went beyond the appointment of a middle ranking Police Officer with a one room office in Delhi. After a clamor from Civil and Military officers P.V Narsimha Rao’s Government totally rejected the idea, broadly on the grounds that the NSC’s role could be only limited in a Cabinet form of Government. It was only after taking over as PM, did Atal Behari Vajpayee once again, went through the case and approved the establishment of a six member National Advisory Council which would be directly reporting to him. His Principal Secretary who was to double up as the National Security Advisor as also to function over the deliberations of the NAC but would continue to work as his Principal Secretary. Today the Internal and External Threats that India Faces requires a coordinated strategy in which not only the Three Services, Army, Navy and Air Force along with the Para Military Forces and the Police must be represented in the deliberations of the NAC. It is important to also today mesh in Foreign Service Representatives as the assessment of THREATS both Internal and External must be taken into consideration before making a PLAN AND IMPLEMENTING ACTION.
The Government has announced that the Cabinet Committee on Security is to take a call soon on deciding the terms for having a permanent Chairman of the Chief’s of Staff Committee, which is a body comprising of the Three Service Chiefs,(Army, Navy and Air Force)by having a full – time Chairman for the COSC which was one of the items suggested by the Naresh Chandra task force . Beside this, the entire list of suggestions of the task force has today been forwarded to the CCS(Cabinet Committee on Security) for a decision. The present Navy Chief Admiral DK Joshi has confirmed that the three Services were in agreement on having an Officer heading the COSC on a full- time basis . India was perhaps the only Country in the World which previously had a single Commander-in Chief for all the three Services. However In 1947 this arrangement was discarded and each Service was given their own Commander in Chiefs. This nomenclatior was changed again in 1955 and the Commander-in –Chiefs were re- designated as Chief’s of Staffs which was meaningless and misleading. At present , the Senior most Service Chief is the ex-officio Chairman of the COSC ( Chiefs of Staff Committee ). Suddenly AK Antony the RM has got an out of box solution and asked all Political Parties to give their opinion on having a full time Chairman Chief of Staff Committee (four star). Has the Government after a 15 years of miss rule in a Democratic Country recommended a separate Four Star General to head the Chief of Staff Committee?. IS IT THAT THE GOVERNMENT HAS FAILED THE COUNTRY IN HAVING A VIBRANT COMMAND STRUCTURE DUE TO WHICH THEY HAVE FAILED TO ENSURE THE SECURITY OF OUR COUNTRY AND THE PEOPLE?
On December 17, 1995, a small sleepy village called Purulia in West Bengal experienced a most unusual shower. A mysterious airplane dropped boxes of weapons over it by night .It included 300 AK series rifles, rocket launchers, anti-tank grenades and small arms. The then Government alleged that the Arms Drop was the handiwork of the Anand Marg cult. Its Ashrams at Purulia were raided and arrests made. What was most Peculiar, was how Indian’s airspace could so easily be violated. WAS or IS INDIA SECURE EVEN TODAY? The mystery took another turn when the alleged plane which dropped the Arms returned to Mumbai and the Indian Air Force got the plane to land at the City Airport. The key suspect, Kim Davy escaped, despite tight security!!! While the true motive of the operation remains shrouded in mystery THE PRIME ACCUSED KIM DAVY today claims that the Government itself was behind the Arms Drop to counter the CPI(M) cadres with the help of RAW and MI5 and Kim Davy was assured by the Central Government about his safety and return to DENMARKafter completion of his task.
Lacs of Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen besides Members of Paramilitary Forces and their Families, who by virtue of their nature of tenures and duties are posted at distant places spread over India and are not able to exercise their Right of Vote, (which is not a civil right) but is a creature of the Statute, in the manner it is exercised as per one’s choice, keeping in view the Broader Perspective and they hold the right to vote to Power any Political Party of his/her choice by casting their vote, at their Place of Posting, by conferring on them the status of “Ordinarily Resident” in the Area of their Posting by filling FORM 6vide Rules 13(1) and 26 which is for inclusion of their Names in the Electoral Roll. The Registration of Electors Rules 1960 also already allows them to get themselves as Registered Voters at their Place of Posting by merely submitting the Form which is addressed to the Electoral Officer of the Area for the purpose of Registration , from their HQrs. This sets in motion, for the further evolving of the appropriate mechanism to begin the process for casting of their votes at their HQrs, as the movement of the Armed Forces outside Cantonments / Borders are meant to be a closely guarded Secret in the over all National Interest. Why are they being denied their Basic Democratic Right ?
We certainly today require that in the future we work towards giving INDIA a better Governance with sound Administration for the People who have Voted them to power. This would be only possible with the backing of the strong EMERGING YOUTH whether it be URBAN OR RURAL. The new Government must fulfill the Aspirations of the People by giving a commitment for a better Social, Economic and Secure order. The Governments Fundamental duties must be focused towards the Betterment and Progress of the Citizens irrespective of Cast, Creed or Religion which is a very important responsibility both for the Central and the State Governments. We must remember that every Person in the Country is a HINDUSTANI FIRST then would come his Religion. It is also necessary to root out HIGHLY CORRUPT PRACTICES. All Indian’s cannot be made Prosperous by making other Indians Poverty Stricken.
From the Bread-Bombing and Humanitarian aid to Tamils, to India’s sending the Indian Peace Keeping Force to Sri Lanka, following the (Indo-Sri Lanka Accord), and the IPKF’s transition from a Peace Keeping Force to a full-scale Military Assault Force against the Tamil militant group- LTTE, resulted in the IPKF being called the ‘Indian Peoples Killing Force’. There is a lot to be answered and shared about “Operation Pawan”, India’s longest and thankless war in which we should have had all along sympathized and helped the Tamils, monetarily and through Training. Fighting A War for the Sri Lankan Government and later also losing a Prime Minister, What went wrong? However In the 1971 war against East Pakistan, 1047 Indian soldiers lost their lives, but INDIA left behind a jubilant New – Born Nation BANGLADESH.
Good Governance is the need of the hour and it is exceedingly necessary for any Nation to survive. Political stability is paramount along with a Strategic Vision, Military preparedness, Economic advancement and cohesion in the thinking Process. There should also be contempt for corrupt Politicians to sit in Parliament, if we want “RISE INDIA”. The Political Parties must ensure that nomination for Parliament Tickets are only given to People who are Dedicated, Non – Corrupt, Intelligent, Knowledgeable and who are mature Youth, Women and Men. India’s Politicians today need to get their act together and work as ONE, specially when we face a crisis and this should be done away from the glare of Publicity. Terrorist Groups are today more nimble, more lethal than ever and increasingly networked across Frontiers. What about the recent explosions in Bodh Gaya? Every Security Organization responsible today have different opinions, with each trying to defend themselves. We must immediately crack the causes and plug loopholes in our working procedures.
“THREATS ARE IN THE MINDS OF THE WEAK- THE STRONG ARE THE ONE’S WHO FIGHT AND SURVIVE” – HoonA recent study on India shows, that we continue to rate China and Pakistan as major threats to us. It is surprising that this perception was released just before the visit of Premier Li who met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. It is learnt that our perception was based on a report which was prepared by the Lowy Institute of International Policy which is an Australian based Think Tank!!! Why could not our Ministers, Diplomats and the Government perceive and collate such a sensitive report themselves which deals with the Economic and Military Threats faced by us and could not we be Diplomatically savvy as not to make our Neighbors uncomfortable, more so, Super Powers like China who could become hostile towards us and start thinking Anti – India as also that we are leaning more towards the Western Path? Have we ever considered that one group of Allies together lead by India, China and USSR will give us maximum future security and benefits. We could then, perhaps soon become a leading World Group of Nations. China today is surely orientated towards great Economic Strides and is entering the world’s consumer market’s. This may initially hurt our growth but there is lot to gain if China and India sit together to iron out their differences as soon as possible. Why do we let others fog our thinking because of what outsiders present through their Think Tanks which is alien? Have we got weak Ministers, Diplomats or Poor Bureaucrats who can not see beyond their desks?
OUR DEEP ANGUISH AND GRIEF FOR THE DEATH, DESTRUCTION AND DEVASTATION WHICH HAS TAKEN PLACE IN UTTRAKHAND DUE TO MAN MADE DISASTER/ ECO ZONE NON COMPLIANCE, WE SHOULD BOW OUR HEADS IN SHAME AND PRAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT WITH US TODAY. ( 20 June 2013).
The recent visit of our PM Manmohan Singh to Japan, so soon after the visit of Premier Li visiting India from China, was it a coincidence? Did they discuss some Secret Agenda because his visit in Japan was extended by one day? Were there too many things to discuss with Japan’s Premier Abe which related to the talks he had with Premier Li? While I am a votary for improving Our relationships with all Countries of the World and specially with our Neighbours, including Pakistan, surely Manmohan picturing himself with his Japanese counter part Premièr Abe, was it that he considers Japan as an Indispensable Partner of India closer than China both for Economic and Defence matters in the coming future? Did he or did he not agree to dismantle our bunkers at DBO with orders to pull back our troops during China Premier Li’s visit ?
Paradoxically the “National Security” cloak around us has been Developing for far too long. It severely harms Indian interests. What we need to immediately evolve is a transparent system where Parliament can openly debate on Security and other issues through either public hearings or in camera, the points that are at issue. Unfortunately, at present it would appear that a Public Debate in Parliament is shunned, may be by those who harbor personal interests or maintain links with Foreign Powers and seek things which are only beneficial to themselves!!! “The Country or the Cause be Damned”.With the increasing Power and Projection being shown by our Neighbors CHINA and PAKISTAN, we have today a grave situation developing all around us with even Countries like Burma, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and as also in the South China Sea Area. Our relationships are anything but Cordial – INDIA today must be ready to deploy our Armed might with our Maritime Forces operating on India’s Sea Frontiers as also by moving out our Land and Air Combat Forces to their Battle locations. This is not to start a War but will act as a warning to hostile Forces who are today testing our response. I hope the Parliamentarians understand the gravity of the situation and our Civilian Leaders must not favor the turning of our face and exposing the other cheek to any Aggressor, because their will be a stronger slap, which may break even a jaw. This is not War mongering. Unfortunately I have always been stubbed as a HAWK – by a large number of People who I am sure cannot appreciate the real situation having had no access or expose to a Patriotic Military Environment in which I was involved for 40 years.
With our own Elections around the corner, we must prepare ourselves now. The trend of us being hit on one cheek and we presenting the other must change. DECISIONS COME THROUGH OUR STRENGTHS AND NOT OUR WEAKNESSES. Take the case of a Country like NORTH KOREA which is smaller than any of India’s Mighty States – see the warning, which has been given by them – “North Korea is on the brink of a Nuclear War in the wake of UN sanctions in response to its Feb Nuclear Test and we are aware of a series of joint US and South Korean Military drills that have included a rare US show of Aerial Power” North Korea has warned that it was entering a State of War and has Armed her Nuclear Missiles to take on the USA and South Korea. SEE THE DIFFERENCES “WAKE UP INDIA”
TODAY’S PARLIAMENTARIANS SITTING IN BOTH HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT AS OUR REPRESENTATIVES ARE PAID HEAVILY WITH TREMENDOUS ADDED FREEBIES WHICH COST THE NATION LACS AND LACS OF RUPEES EVERY HOUR WHICH BLEEDS THE PEOPLE OF INDIA. THIS MUST BE CURBED IMMEDIATELY. I RECOMMEND THAT EVERY WALKOUT IN PARLIAMENT MUST BE COMPUTED FOR EACH HOUR OF LOSS OF TIME WHEN THEY HOLD PARLIAMENT TO RANSOM AND DENY DISCUSSION WHICH THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO AS A DUTY ASSIGNED TO THEM BY THE ELECTORATE AND THE PEOPLE OF INDIA. Why don’t we deduct their Salaries and plough back the money to the Exchequer?
A lot more needs to be done and, we must today, sensitive and pressurize our Countrymen NOT TO FIELD OR VOTE for any Candidate who has a Criminal Background or a poor Record, and keep such Personalities far away from contesting the coming Lok-Sabha/ Assembly Elections, even if the Individual Candidate may be eligible to contest as per the prevailing Statues which lays down that since he has not been CONVICTEDin the Crime that is against him and therefore he is eligible to contest.
Let Us SALUTE, the INDIAN Armed Forces each and every Indian Soldier, Alive, or who Perished, Fighting but WINNING against Pakistan, ‘SIACHEN’ ….The World’s Highest Battlefield.!!!!!! The recent proposal by Pakistan, to make ‘Siachen’, a ‘NO MAN ZONE’ CAN NEVER be considered… since the Indian Army is already on the MOON..!! ‘THEY GAVE THEIR TODAY FOR OUR TOMORROW’…Subedar Bana Singh Param Vir Chakra Hero of Siachen Glacier I Salute him. (today)
To deny Women is to deprive a Country of our Talent. The progress of a Nation is directly correlated to the legal status the Country accords to them. It is shown time and again that unless a respectful place is provided to Women with Equality and Respect no State can ever prosper. “You can tell the condition of a Nation by looking at the status of its Women”- Pandit Jawahrlal Nehru
The dismal situation of the Retail Sector in India today, despite the on-going wave of incessant liberalization and globalization stems from the absence of an FDI encouraging policy in the Indian Retail Sector.
TIGER was also of the view that Martial Law must be imposed in the strife torn Kashmir which would be the only answer specially due to the killings that were taking place during the Amarnath Pilgrimage. He however made it clear that his Silence must not be construed as Weakness. He said (Quote) I am silent because I am worried about the Country, but at the same time I want to make it clear that I have not cooled down (Unquote).
V.K Singh retired only in May 2012 and as COAS while traveling across the Country over the years, he admits to have identified himself with Hazare’s fight against Corruption. Whilst in uniform was he truly carrying out the tasks assigned to him as a Chief? Was he trying to spread canards within the Armed Forces? Does he realize that India is one of the most respected and only Country in the World with an unblemished record of the highest form of Democracy that we follow? Has V.K Singh ever studied our Constitution? IS HE A DICTATOR? Would not his previous behavior and present utterances affect our Armed Forces Personnel? Is he now thinking of fighting Elections and does he have an eye on the PRIME MINISTER’s CHAIR? The Government must immediately direct him to stop his ambitious Safari and ask him to resign being the Honorary Colonel of the Rajput Regiment.
This is the Untold story of the spat between The President of India, Giani Zail Singh, and the Prime Minister, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi in 1986 – 87. While the President wanted to dismiss the Prime Minister, the Prime Minister wanted to impeach the President!!!! What is still not known is the real Politics that was played during this period. Who were the disgruntled Politicians who approached Gianiji and did the Army have a role to play? Why was the Plan not carried out? Who were those misguided and disgruntled Army Men? The President has stated that if he had dismissed Rajiv and appointed a Successor, the Successor may have been a weak person which could have led to a transfer of power from a Democratically Elected Government to the Armed Forces.
I was promoted Brigadier by the end of 1971 and was commanding a Mountain Brigade in Sikkim. It was during my tenure that I noticed some sort of an upheaval and tension building up between the then Political Officer Shankar Bajpai (later Ambassador to Pakistan and then to the USA) and the Chogyal, the ruler of Sikkim. A love-hate relationship was on between the Chogyal and India House. The Armed Forces were very friendly with the Chogyal, who threw frequent parties at his palace in Gangtok. The Army reciprocated by hosting Chogyal and his American wife, Hope Namgyal. The Chogyal was a keen bridge player and Shankar Bajpai and I often played bridge with him along with others.
A whirlwind is raised as a Cheetah helicopter takes off above the mountains from the helipad at Leh in Ladakh, in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The deafening noise from the helicopters and airplanes never cease at this airbase. As a result of heavy snowfall every winter, the two main roads over Zojila one from Manali and other through Srinagar/Zojila become impassable, and Leh is cut – off from the rest of the world for six months in a year. General Kayani Chief of the Pakistan Army, has appealed to India that we should settle the issue of the Siachen Glacier by demilitarizing the Area.
